Lessons

Four ways to work together

Every player starts somewhere different. Sessions are shaped around your level and how often you can get on court.

Private lessons

$80/hour

Or 5 lessons for $375, 10 for $700, paid in person.

One-on-one for juniors and adults alike. Stroke and serve mechanics, footwork, the slower, softer balls young beginners learn on, and a practice plan you can actually work on between sessions.

Book a private lesson

30-minute lessons

$45/30 minutes

One-on-one, focused on one part of your game.

Book 30 minutes

Semi-private lessons

$110/hour for two — $55 each

The same lesson, split between two players of a similar level. You each pay less than a private, and the pairing gives you live rallies and points to work through rather than feeding alone. Bring a friend, a sibling, or a doubles partner.

Bring a friend who's new to me and you both get $10 off your first semi-private lesson.

Hitting partner sessions

$45/hour

Straight hitting rather than instruction, for players who just want a reliable ball to work against. Sessions run 60 minutes or longer.

Book a hitting session

Adult clinics

Per group, quoted by size

Small groups on one court, working through drills and live-ball games with enough rotation that everyone keeps hitting. Cost depends on how many of you there are.

Giving tennis as a present? Any private lesson, package or hitting session can be a gift.

About

Fundamentals first, then everything else

I've been coaching for three years. I started as a Junior Pro at LifeSport Libertyville, then joined the Pro Staff of Grip N Rip, the junior program at Newport Beach Tennis Club.

I'm certified by the RSPA, the Racket Sports Professionals Association (formerly the USPTA), and approved under USTA Safe Play: background-checked and SafeSport-trained.

Most of my work is with developing juniors — getting the fundamentals right early so progress keeps compounding. I also run adult clinics for players who want more consistency and a clearer plan once points actually start.

I played four years of high school varsity. Coaching is a part-time job for me, fitted around school, so the schedule stays small and deliberate.

The court

The court you'll learn on

Hover or tap a part of the court to see what we work on there.

Baseline

Where most of the lesson lives. Groundstrokes, footwork and rally tolerance: ten balls in a row before you try to hit one hard.

Service boxes

Serves and returns. The toss and the rhythm come first, then the spin, and you serve at a target rather than just over the net.

The net

Volleys and overheads. Short swings, early contact, and the footwork to get there in time.

Mid-court

The transition zone: approach shots and the half-volley, the shots that take you from the baseline to the net.

The alleys

Doubles. Angles, poaching and where to stand, for anyone playing league or social doubles.

Reviews

From people who've seen me coach

I mentored Isaac at LifeSport Libertyville and watched his growth firsthand. His work ethic, self-discipline, and commitment to improvement led him from student to Junior Professional, where he coached Red Ball, Orange Ball, and high school match play with strong leadership and care for every player's development.

Isaac Lee is a tremendous tennis player who dedicated himself to the sport from a young age. Not only is Isaac a great player but an even better mentor, with his methodical teaching style and attention to detail.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Does my child need to have played before?

No. Juniors start from complete beginners. The youngest learn on slower, softer balls (red, then orange, then green) and move up as they're ready.

Is my child safe with you?

I'm approved under USTA Safe Play, which means I'm background-checked and SafeSport-trained. I'm also certified by the RSPA, the Racket Sports Professionals Association.

Do I pay when I book?

No. Booking online just holds the time: no card, no deposit. You pay in person.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancel or move a lesson with 24 hours' notice; later cancellations are charged. If rain or heat cancels a lesson, we reschedule at no cost.

Can you come to my court or my home?

No. All lessons are at my home court, the Toscana Apartments tennis courts in Irvine.

I don't have a racket. Is that okay?

Yes. You can borrow one of mine.

Are there lesson packages?

Yes, for private lessons: 5 for $375 or 10 for $700, paid in person. That's $75 and $70 an hour instead of $80.

Can I give lessons as a gift?

Yes: one private lesson, 5 or 10 private lessons, or a hitting session. Send me the request, we settle payment in person, and you get a printable gift card.

Why a younger coach?

Fair question. I've coached since 2023, first as a Junior Pro at LifeSport Libertyville and then on the Pro Staff of Grip N Rip at Newport Beach Tennis Club. I'm RSPA-certified and Safe Play approved, and I played four years of high school varsity. Book one lesson and judge for yourself.
